HIPPA Training Information: There are 2 online HIPAA Training sessions that must be completed.

1. UNC School of Medicine HIPAA Training.

This training must be updated yearly as a data base is kept by the departments on an individual level. You will need an ONYEN login and your PID number. The modules that each individual must complete may vary with their research role but in general the following modules should be considered as relevant. A certificate is given for successul completion.

 a. Research Disclosures for Data Custodians
 b. General Information Security
 c. Privacy

2. CITI IRB HIPAA Training.

This training needs to be competed only once (for now). A certificate is given for successful completion.

  New users will need to create a user account before begining the training. Currently, complete the modules required for 
  Group 3: Research involving Data and specimens only....

JCAHO Training

This training is required annually by the Medical school. Note that you must take and pass the post test to receive proper credit for the training. The JCAHO training requires an annual TB test. For information call 962-5710

Training is also required annually by the Medical school.

After Hours Lab access:


In order to access the lab after hours you will need a key and a badge. In order to get a badge you will need to have completed both the School of Medicine HIPPA and JCAHO saftey training listed above.


1. How to get a key:

Go to the Psychiatry Business office rm# 372 wing D of the Medical school and ask (Joni Williams) for a key to rm# 355 wing C of the medical school


2. How to get a Hospital Badge

Make sure that you have completed HIPPA and JCAHO Training.

Go to the Psychiatry Business office and ask (Alicia Isley) for a badge access form that will allow access to wing C. Take that form to rm#41 MacNider Hall and have a photo ID made.
